Key features of the site and the surrounding area include: protected industrial wharves to both east and west which limit opportunities for wider connections to the river walk; a redundant industrial concrete pier serving a river boat community of approximately 20 moorings with access across the site; a dock inlet a limited number of semi-mature trees on the river frontage.
Over 50 partners were involved in bringing the festival to life including, tourist venues, businesses, charities, Sleaford Library, community groups, artists, Council’s, and the voluntary sector. It is bounded by the river to the north, Nine Elms Lane to the south and Cringle/Kirtling Streets to the west. Four artworks which will form part of one of the UK’s largest free city centre events have been revealed. United By Music - New York-based design firm Yellow Studio - founded by Julio Himede – will bring its 10-metre round, multi-purpose performance space to River of Light for its debut, paying tribute to the music of Eurovision 2023. It’s an honour for me to be working with Culture Liverpool and international artists Atelier Sisu on River Of Light 2023. The cores are conceived as glazed lift enclosures creating counterpoints that interrupt the simplicity of the main linear façades. The city is such a wonderful location for the work, and we hope that we can bring a spark of joy to Liverpool this Autumn!
In the early 19th century, this part of the river was made up of a number of small wharves and docks, gradually replaced over time by other industrial uses.Liverpool-based award-winning composer John McHugh has been chosen by Atelier Sisu to produce a new soundscape for both the Elysian artworks. The 'Lampshades Bouquet' - Created by the French artistic studio TILT who are inspired by everyday objects into giving them a twist of humour and poetry. The 2023 theme is United By Light – inspired by the United By Music strapline used when Liverpool was the host city for what is regarded as the most successful Eurovision Song Contest ever.

The theme of this year’s outdoor illuminated trail is 'United By Light' paying tribute to the United By Music strapline - used when Liverpool hosted the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine in May 2023.The brief for this project was to create a mixed-use development of the highest quality – incorporating residential, commercial and hotel uses – whilst providing an active retail frontage along Nine Elms Lane and a dock inlet, as well as new pedestrian links to the waterfront.
